Trend Alert - Chambray Shirt

Monday, 29 July 2013

Mens styling

A Chambray shirt is one my favourite key fashion piece in menswear. Its easy to style and maintain (no ironing required). Chambray has evolved from denim, is lighter and softer.
A chambray shirt can be paired with almost anything from a pair of chinos, to colored pants to denims.

Chambray shirts are available with a lot of Denim Brands. Do try them on your next visit.

Have a great week ahead.

Trend Alert -Coloured Chinos: Men

Monday, 22 July 2013

Trend Update

Its been two seasons since colored chinos became a rage. I for one am glad to see men sport some colour. Here are some of my favourite looks and colours.

A word of advice though, to all savvy men out there, choose a colour that suits your style and personality. Do not go overboard while styling. Add neutral tones to your look and balance it out against the coloured chino.

Have fun experimenting.

How to choose your clothes wisely.

Choosing your Clothes wisely
Choosing your clothes wisely

Choosing what to buy is not easy. But this tip should make it easier.

There are three types of clothes.

  • The ones that are fashionable, the classics, and finally, the ones that look good on you.
  • These three groups intersect in two smaller groups: fashionable and classic things that look good on you.
  • Those are the things you should buy.

Styling tips for weekend

Here's a weekend getaway look for men. Do keep in mind always, simple is better than overly stylised; every time; each time.
Dress appropriate for the occasion and add jacket incase its meeting friends at a posh place for dinner.
If you are in the ever raining town like Mumbai, do replace the leather shoes with rain friendly ones (not floaters or crocs please). There are some cool options, though very limited available in CROCS, Woodland and various other brands under all weather shoes.
Have an awesome weekend.

How to DIY :Flip Flops and scarf

Flip flop and scarf shoes

I have always been a fan of DIY. It s a great way to recycle your wardrobe, and add personal touch. I found this DIY flip flop and scarf idea and really love it. Do try.

With a little creativity, you can make some cute sandals out of your old flip flops. All you need are some cheap flip flops, a colorful scarf and scissors. If you want to create a pair of tribal inspired gladiator sandals, choose a printed scarf with tribal motifs. Depending on your taste, you can choose a dotted scarf, a vintage scarf, or a wide satin ribbon.

Start by cutting the scarf in half. Place it over the middle of the flip flop and bring the ends around either side of the strap. Wrap them, one at a time, around the “V” of the flip flops until you reach the end. Make sure it’s tight. When you’re done, wrap the fabric straps around your ankles. These sandals are comfortable, lightweight and original. If you’re looking for variety, try out different ways to wrap the ankle straps. Wear these lovely sandals with a maxi skirt or dress for a fresh summer look.

3. A classic yet a chunky neck-piece to add a bit of glamour.
4. N eons are still a rage but a tonal bag goes a long way.
5. If you are heel person strappy wedges are an all-time summer staple, else don your strappy sandals but do try new colors.

In a minute

Saturday, 8 June 2013

In a minute

Everyone wants to be someone, achieve their own milestones and get there. To get there you carry along tools that include skill, talent, charm and knowledge. Something is missing? The attire, I consider it the one of the most important tools in today’s professional, social interactions.

We are living in a fast paced world with less than a minute to make an impression. A glance at you; a question to you and you either land the job of your dreams or are put up in a wait list. First impressions speak a great volume. As I read somewhere communication is only twenty percent talking; the rest is body language. A product is as important and attractive as its packaging.

If world is a stage we all are mere performers playing a part and dressing up for it!

Are you dressed for the part?

Watch out for the next post – Must haves this summer.

To be or not to be!

Friday, 7 June 2013

To be or not to be

As stated earlier, I do not judge others by what, how and why they are wearing. I am always trying to explore the thought behind the decision, trying to read the minds hidden behind the clothes. I always suggest people seeking my advice, when putting together your looks, always adapt never copy. As easy as the advice may sound I also know that it cannot be case. For those who believe in looking the part as well as playing it should always find and experiment.

Once a look is nailed, you can start replacing, one thing at a time, for e.g. a necklace, then the top, then the trouser, hence creating variations! It always helps to take a feedback from your real friends, the ones you don’t mind hearing the nastiest and the best.

The Best Dressed

Monday, 6 February 2012

The best dressed

The First Ladies of the US have always been dressed by the designers based out of their country. Here is an archived tour of some of the dresses worn by Jacky Kennedy View gallery here . The monarchs/ politicians and diplomats of various other nations are groomed and put their best dressed self forward when representing their respective country.

Don’t you think it’s time we dressed the representatives of our countries with our best?

We do employ the designers to style our Miss India to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth; why not the other representatives?

While witnessing the grand Republic day parade I realized that our President was wrapped in a beautiful sari with an inconspicuous scarf on her head under a pallu over her head. Maybe it’s time our reputed designers stepped up and gave the powerful a make-over for the better.

India is poised to become a nation to reckon with, a rising nation. We have to present ourselves better. Be it vocally or through our presence. Its time all the politicians, diplomats are groomed while representing our nation on the global platforms.

Another positive outcome would be promoting Indian Fashion Industry which is still struggling to gain a foothold on International platforms.

Know Them?

Wednesday, 1 February 2012

Know them?

At another big glamorous retail space, it was quite exhilarating to notice that while some make a conscious effort to dress up for the glorious occasion to come and shop in an upscale brand while others (who are very few) just didn’t care. Ones that do dress up know better, that they have a reputation to live up to, shopping in an upscale store. Others just came to get a glimpse of the fascinating world, hoping to be part of it someday.

In such scenarios I always put on my observers hat to weave my web of stories in my head. It actually comes quite naturally to spot the out of towner’s, the fashionistas, the wannabe fashionistas and the ones who just came to get anything that fits the budget from the big international brand.

If clothes were just to cover a body why did people lay so much of stress on dressing up a part and playing it? It would be shallow to try and read people from the way they dress but the footfalls to the store would tell you a different story.

If she can, so can I!

Tuesday, 31 January 2012

If she can, so can I!

In my previous post I might sound a bit irrational to suggest, “To understand people, decode their choice of clothing”. But in my defense, when I look at a passer-by, I may notice a whole lot of things but strangely enough end up remembering what he/she wore, how they wore it and boy did they look good wearing it! The rest, just dismiss!

My recent trip to a mall; where a certain international brand was on sale, I realized something peculiar, quite extraordinary. In a space cramped with last season’s best fashionable items on sale and brimming full with people in a hurry to get their size before anyone else,  I caught quite a few glancing at others from tip to toe, sometimes in admiration; at times, well in a frown!

The story of the decoding thus took shape. Armed with personal experience, I started to read the glances thrown towards others from time to time. If you spot a head turner you draw inspiration, admire (mind you, not expressing it at all in any way), add a mental note of look; file away in the corner of your head for later reference. If you notice a laggard you file away a note what not-to-wear and how not-to-wear. I always have caught women checking out others seeking clues to how, why and where? How did she think of dressing up like that? Why did she dress up like that? And where did she get that? Finally the eternal question; if she can, I can, Can I?

In all honesty and devoid of any narcissism I have often come across women acquaintances/friends who have at times (well I would like to say always but in the spirit of modesty) taken my clothes and styling as references and flattered me with an identical representation of myself. There has been no mention or dedication or an ode to the originator ever. Such is the world of an urban woman.

Well as I said if she can so can I.
