The Cool Couple

Its not very often that we come across a couple as cool and quirky as this one we spotted recently. She in her negligee-style dress and he with his matching horse prints separates just raised our fashion and quirk quotient to a new high!
The Cool Couple
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.com/, The Cool Couple
The matching-separates trend, a move from the short suit that took over the runways and won its acceptance as Formal wear has been wowing the bold, aware and confident men. It could be a matching pair of Tee and shorts, a shirt and shorts, as long as you are willing to have fun with it and like a bit of quirk in your style!
The Cool Couple
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.in/,The Cool Couple
He wears this white shirt with conversational horse print in black, buttoned-up and sleeves rolled-up paired with shorts to match with rolled -up hems as well. The vibrant tropical print espadrilles bring in a very Luxe resort feel to the whole look. His SWAG metal plate cap adds to the luxury feel.
She continues the Luxe resort feel with an amazing pair of printed sneakers to go with outfit. Printed and colorful sneakers and espadrilles are our favorite footwear to don while having fun with your outfits, for him and her.

We love her black n white box clutch with a photo-printed top and a chain sling, even the personalized tasselled dangler!

Her blunt bangs hair frames her beautiful face and is a hairstyle that spells Edgy!

And the Edgy continues with a grey melange Tee dress paired with a negligee-style embroidered net dress in black that a genius pairing! We love the whole sheer-opaque play that she creates.
What do you think about this couple's style?.......we adore!

Mixing patterns is an art form. Blessed are the ones who can mix and match and carry off the look without a second thought. General Idea, D&G, Louis Vuitton, Etro Menswear have this trend featuring in their look books since  2012. The trend is finally catching on.

Nathaniel here captures the trend while adding a melange layered tee upping style quotient. He teamed a Kurta in hand-loom from Meghalaya with a minimal geometric print pants finishing the look with Roman inspired sandals in tan.A gold watch adds to the sophistication.

Its a perfect Indian take on the modern trend.

P.S When mixing patterns-

1. Try mixing patterns from the same colour family or trying out monotones. Using hues from one main colour when mixing patterns can create a very subtle look.
2. Use textures as solid
Some patterns are small enough and understated that the eye can view them as a solid, even though they are really not.
3. Look for patterns that compliment each other in colours, size , type etc.
4. Avoid head-to-toe in one pattern.
5. Space out the patterns
There is no need to wear a patterned shirt with a patterned tie or jacket.
6. Experiment with combination of patterns in different densities/sizes.

To discuss a big ticket project Esha has to go for a meeting with a publishing house. Corporate elegance is what she has in find while putting her ensemble together. A passionate stylist Esha wears her heart on her sleeves in a heart-print shirt that she wears over a textured skirt in off white.

The pearl drops, the jacket and her metal chain-sling and her Dior peep-toe pumps make an elegant and compelling argument.

For a luncheon at a friend's beach house, Esha wanted to let her hair down. The temptation to run down the beach at sunset to touch the waters and cool your heels is hard to resist....specially when a bunch of girls just wanna have fun!

Esha wears this interesting short/long wrap-tie-up dress in a powdered sea blue base with sun faded floral print all-over. The dress is designed for maximum freedom of movement and hence an ideal choice. A sleeveless trucker jacket in denim, a carry all tote and a pair of slip-on flats complete her resort look.

Hair eager to kiss the breeze Esha is ready for some fun on the beach.

P.S: When planning a beach/resort look ensure that you work with minimum number of pieces that are easy to put on and allow you maximum ease and movement. Easy Breezy should be your keywords.....Have fun!

Esha has a Fashion show-for-a-cause to attend, front row, followed by high tea and ending with a sundown soiree at the chic manicured gardens of a 5-star venue.

She chooses this amazing Grecian draped dress by the James Farreira that took my breath away. The Ombre' going from soft hibiscus red to a carrot orange blending in at the waist is a fabulous pairing of color don't you think?

She wears a double string pearl and shell neckpiece in gold, a gold neck choker and a broad gold cuff to complement this Greek Goddess look. Unafraid of adding more color, she chooses a pair of bold color blocked peep toes  for footwear in fuchsia, royal blue and black. I love this footwear choice simply for the fact that is adds a zing that make her look fab from tip to toe. A safer footwear choice wouldn't have been able to do so. She finishes her look with kohl lined eyes, soft hibiscus lips and hair swept back into a messy bun on the side with her tamed curls trying to break free.

Esha Amin is ready to set the temperatures of this garden soiree soaring!

Esha has to meet a friend today she hasn't caught up with in a long time, for a coffee. In a cheerful mood that she is, she pulls out her on-trend pieces, all different and mixes it up with a panache that comes with experience and in the end her pattern-play sits wonderfully together.

Esha wears a deep U neck T with a very interesting Aztec-Geo-Skin horizontal pattern over a tone-on-tone patterned sequined skirt in off-white, both trending equally hot this summer! She puts on a waterfall cardigan in a print that a very modernist leopard skin representation with almost hand-painted spots in colors. The girl loves her metals and a gold cuff with set-in turquoise, leather envelop clutch in silver with all-over tonal studs, and her gold monogrammed pair of belle flat shoes in black finish her look!

Every piece that Esha dons is a conversation starter and I'm sure the girls catching up would have easily moved from coffee to dinner!

P.S: Mixing different trends skin prints-sequined surfaces-aztec/tribal prints-studded pieces-metallic together could be overwhelming. While creating your mix be careful that your entire look doesn't overpower your personality. If you can rock it like this go right ahead!

Casual meets Classic

At many occasions when I have spotted Daniel he's almost always been in a pair of shorts! This Milan trained stylist for Elle surely has taken the onus upon himself to make 'a pair of shorts', replace the trousers menfolk have to wear to work. Given the summers in Mumbai it seems like the right thing to do, logically. I am glad he has not let norms guide his choice of comfort and unique individual style.

Daniel seems to be a fan of classics pairing his black pair with a Vivienne Westwood high button down collared shirt in classic white. A bit more place for his quirks is seen in the choice of his Polka-dot socks, again in black-n-white paired with classic leather high-top shoes. A leather tote in black completes his look that sits perfectly in the middle of a casual and formal look!

Marble cocktail

I was pleased to spot Abhishek for his eclectic style with bow-tie and striped pants, confirming another trend that I talked about in my earlier post Upcoming Trends for men, where I talk about Casual meeting Formal in dressing. Its all about mixing it all up and coming up with your own cocktail really, the casual elements, the formal elements, the accessories, the hair and the personality.

Let me break down Abhishek's mix for you. He wears a marble print (a hot print trend for men this summer) shirt in cotton, a leather strap-sport watch, the gladiator sandals in brown leather-the casual elements. The diamond-tip bow-tie in an minimal floral pattern and a pair of trousers in a black-n-white pinstripes cut just above the ankle are the formal elements. With his natural and wavy soft curls hair covering one side of his face almost, and reminds me of Kit Harrington-my current heartthrob from The Game Of Thrones, the cocktail is complete!
Shy but confident, creative but focused, messy but meticulous that's the Marbled Lagoon-a cocktail from Abhishek Shinde.

Modern Minimalism

When me met at an event my fashion conscious eye couldn't help but notice the preppy and minimalist style of Karan Berry.

Karan juggles many hats in the creative fields including footwear design, visual spaces and with his partner Leon, has just debuted with their line KARLEO in the Lakme' Fashion Week's summer edition, in Mumbai.

I am drawn to Modern Minimalism as an expression when its used with a clear conceptual edge. I see this in the collections from Calvin Klein blended with the influences from sportswear. This new concept of anti-branding, anti-logo and non-decorative styling finds much favor with me. Here your style becomes more about self-expression and individuality yet remaining anonymous. I am a fan of Muji, a Japanese brand that seems to base itself on this philosophy and has found much success globally.

Karan seems to identify with and incorporate these in his personal style very well. He wears a crew neck long sleeve lightweight knit in purple with a smart fitted, tailored pair of trousers in grey prince of Wales checks, very subtle. The accessories he uses to complete his look, the leather chunky fringe loafers, the bespoke leather backpack, the watch interest me and pleases me the most!

There is a certain attraction in the play of textures, the updated color blocking in the designs, both from the label A.K.A Bespoke, that he is a part of. The contrasts, the green+brown in the shoes and the purple+brown for the backpack are subtle and striking at the same time.
All the best for KARLEO!

To the 80's

You've moved to New Delhi from Mumbai last week, you're dressed to kill, armed with a pout and a practiced-to-perfection pose, with dreams and a plan.....you're on LFW high! (Lakme'/WI Lifestyle Fashion Weeks). Couldn't resist the new Coke commercial doing rounds to announce the migration of the f-people to the capital for the Autumn Winter 14 edition of Wills India Lifestyle Fashion Week being opened by Tarun Tahiliani on the 26th of the month.

I chose to stay put in Mumbai and get back on the street on my hunt, the mystery, the tale that clothes tell and the people behind them. I stumbled upon the charming Shweta, who brought in a lovely new avatar of the 80's vintage for us. Reminiscent of the oversize T+ cut off shorts+ the acid washed denim jacket combination which was a staple for the teens of the 80's grooving to Madonna, Queen or Jon Bon Jovi.

To the 80's and back with Shweta Sharma

Shweta wears this oversize shirt in denim with a stone acid wash, very popular during the 80's, with ripped chest pocket and elbow patched for the real vintage and worn feel. She pairs it up with the iconic cut out denim shorts with frayed edges. She finishes her Retro vibe with the big hair she wears casually. A metal tipped and monogrammed leather clutch bag in camel, and black velvet driving shoes with the skull embroidery, made famous by Alexander McQueen, complete her minimal yet fabulous updated-from-the-80's look.

Denim all the way

I am a die-hard denim fan. The humble piece of attire, a pair of denims, has a knack of reinventing itself over and over again to stay relevant to the times and to stay on trend globally. Ever since the Levi's 5 pocket, it has increasingly become a wardrobe staple and that seems unlikely to change.

I noticed Kaills at the Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai, out with her camera to capture and take memories back home, for the fab pair she was wearing.

Kaills wears this pair of distress novelty acid washed pair of denims rolled up to mid calf length. It has a very 80's retro and vintage vibe with the strategic abrasions and tears. She teams it up with a coated knit sleeveless tank in black, a raw amethyst pendant around her neck and a crinkled patent leather sling. Her choice of footwear is an interesting pair of sporty wedge heels that looks high on comfort without compromising one bit on style. Her cat eye shades are style of the moment and everyone, from models, celebrities to the fashionistas, all are sporting it!
Casual, Cool, Comfortable and Chic, Kaills Fotini has cracked the code for dressing right and having fun in Mumbai with her perfect ensemble.

Kaills is a street style photographers dream come.

Kaills is visiting Mumbai.

These washed and ripped denims are my hot favorite right now. Love the platform dandals.

A bit of patent leather brings glamour to Kaills's look.

Someday I want to be Loulou!

I noticed her when she got up after dinner from the table next to mine at this restaurant and possessed, I followed her, not caring for my soup that had just arrived.....

Loulou van Damme, originally from Belgium is a self-confessed indophile, loves everything about India and calls Mumbai her home. This grand dame of style is a creative consultant for interiors and works with Maithili Ahluwalia's Bungalow 8.

Loulou wears a creation from another creative genius behind Bungalow 8's fashion Mathieu Gugumus Leguillon. She has the agility and aura of a yogi and Comfort seems to be the keyword for Loulou's style. She wears this unique jumpsuit in black and white horizontal striped cotton, the silhouette of which is a masterful blend of the traditional Indian dhoti+kurta pairing. She teams up her visibly comfortable attire with a pair of canvas sneakers in white, also high on comfort; and an interesting graphic printed stole around her neck.

Being an indophile and a woman automatically makes her a lover of the white(silver) and yellow(gold) metal and many interesting pieces adorn her hands neck and ears. I am sure each piece of jewelery on her has a story behind it and has the flavor of the places it comes from.

For a lady who doesn't want to lug around a bag, Loulou proves that all you need phone+money+keys can fit in her comfortable and compact customized sling.

You define grace, and some day I want to be you!
Loulou wears a loose jumpsuit in stripes in an updated boho chic look.

The trinkets on Loulou shows her fascination for the yellow and silver metal, with a story behind each I am guessing.

Street Style Diaries Mumbai- Koshy

Thursday, 23 January 2014

I carry my rainbow with me.......Only if we could all carry our rainbows with us like Koshy does!

Koshy is definitely a Head turner, one cant not turn one's head to notice this daring girl sporting a hairstyle in all the rainbow hues. Being a hairstylist does open her up to the myriad possibilities of hairstyles but I was amazed at the perfection with which the fringed and layered cut-style-color was executed on her.

Another thing you notice instantly about Koshy is her love for piercings, I could see 8-10 visible piercings on her and I'm sure she has more. Normally heavy piercing and punctured earlobe gives you a very harsh Gothic/Punk look, but on the contrary Koshy manages to have that girly charm and feminine grace to her despite her studs and rings.

Her love for play of colors, both dyes and bleach reflect in her choice of clothes as well. She wears a flattering white camisole over a pair of washed black skinnies bleached out thighs downwards. I love the asymmetric long sleeves wrap top in white with real tie-dye in pink and the vintage washed leather bag in jade green that she carries.

Next time if I could muster up enough courage for a daring, one-of-a-kind hair, I am seeking an appointment with you.

Koshy also runs a blog called Koshywada

Five Days Five Looks One Pal- Prasad Ramamurthy : Making a statement

Thursday, 26 December 2013

The final look brought a big content smile to my face. Prasad gives me this 'let's make a fashion statement' look with his distinctly Japanese nobility inspired ensemble.

Prasad wears a classic butterfly silk bow tie in a rich jewel blue on a crisp light blue shirt with subtly contrasted collar in a mild grey and sleeves rolled-up. He wears a version of the traditional Japanese 'hakama' or the Samurai pants as we know it in a gunmetal grey, in linen. These pants are favored and worn by the Japanese Royals, the Nobles and the Samurais and are identified with their distinct knotted waist and pleats representing the 7 virtues of 'bushido' or the samurai life.

The chunky silver kundals and his choice of footwear black leather mojris add to the aura of this wandering samurai.
Few men can carry off and own this look like Prasad does, he looks powerful, in command and imposing in this garb, his personality still towering above all. He affirms my theory that clothes speak a language of their own. I was totally awestruck and impressed by the power that this image manages to convey.
