Corporate Presesntation

Sudipta had to go for a Corporate Presentation. Being an independent design consultant, she loves to conduct her business with pleasure. She chose to wear a top over a slim fit skirt and a casually thrown jacket on her shoulder, keeping the colors predominantly black. The top has tone-on-tone embroidery and bead work that spells 'subtle style'. The puffed sleeves of the jacket broadens her shoulders and gives her the sense of confidence and convincing power that she'd need to crack the deal! The fit of the flora-n-fauna printed skirt complements her pear shaped body and is the highlight of her ensemble.

Sudipta's choice of accessories, the laptop bag, the shoes complement and gold bracelet, timepiece add to her look at the same time being extremely practical.

She chose to wear her hair tied up and refreshing and pleasant day make-up. I particularly love what bits of the color CORAL in her skirt, her shoes and her lips and nails is doing to the whole look, a perfect deal I'd say!

Five Days Five Looks One Pal - Sudipta Nandi Look 1

Hey there Friends! I have always believed that Clothes have a language of their own. They speak to us and the world outside. We wear a certain set of clothes for a particular occasion, purpose, place or weather. Sometimes what we let our attire reflect our moods. However almost always one's personality is reflected through one's clothes. What one chooses to wear inadvertently reflects the kind of person one is. This is because one is drawn to a particular set of colors,patterns,styles,products and the rest which one's personality has no affinity for does not appeal as much. That said, our personalities today are multi-faceted, we don multiple hats. Jay could be a IT programmer by the day,DJ by the night and an underwater photographer and a scuba diver when he can. Mira could be a banker by the day, a mother, a writer by the night and a zumba dancer for fun. 

I would like to introduce you to some of my stylish friends in a new series. I have tried to capture their personalities as they are on different days, for different occasions,confident and gorgeous.

Sudipta Nandi, a dear friend, trained and experienced in the field of Design, is a consultant by profession and a dance instructor at Baile-de-salon by passion.

Sudipta is seen here in what is an easy breezy style that she can wear to the beach or on a casual day out with her girlfriends. She wears a white comfortable sleeveless top with a pair of printed pants with Dutch blue-white pottery inspired wallpaper artwork.The key here is "less is more'. Her tribal beaded cuffs and the printed canvas tote is her only fun indulgence. Her casually braided hair taken to one side tells me that she's ready to get some wind in her hair and all the fun! The heels just add a right dash of color and glamour to the otherwise soft look.

Street Style Diaries- Mumbai- Arif Rizvi

Arif struck me as the updated and latest version of the quintessential rugged-blue-jeans guy who always manages to score high on the ladies' checklist. He styled himself in a contrast collared tartan plaid shirt tucked halfway in, on purpose I believe ( it works!) and a pair of rolled-up-to-the-ankles denims with a rugged and distressed wash.  I particularly like the wash and the fit of his blue jeans. The colors interact beautifully together.The brown suede shoes worn in the latest manner with no or invisible socks and a hi-performance watch complement his look.

Arif's long locks and groomed facial hair add to his casual and carefree persona and is every bit masculine.

Black Taxi

Black Taxi was started 3 years ago with the idea of providing a platform for new designers and talent in the country to showcase and sell their work through an exhibition. Their first edition was in April 2010 where they exhibited with 25 fresh designers. The concept behind name Black Taxi simply "A cab designers can take to reach their customers."

Black Taxi hosts 2 big exhibits in a year. The Summer Edition usually  takes place around March/April followed by the Winter Edition in October/November where they host 50+ brands/labels.

Parul and Radhika Gupta are on a constant look-out for new and budding talent and fun ideas for hosting events which reflect the immense creativity and craftsmanship our country has to offer.

In the short span of 3 years the event already has an association with over 170 designers. The duo's efforts have found a loyal customer base who are curious to check out their selection every season and keep asking for more.The event gives the shoppers an opportunity to appreciate and buy indigenous crafted products and take home the satisfaction that they are taking home a one-of-a-kind product. The company is contemplating taking the event to other cities within the country. Mumbai however will always be their home ground for their unique shopping events.

The products exhibited range from Apparel, Accessories, Jewelry, Home decor to Food. The company's last years show in October, 2012 had a turnout of 2400 shoppers in one day and they strive to increase these numbers with every edition of the exhibit.

In case you get hungry while shopping ,there was a delectable selection of cupcakes, falafels, pizza by slices, fresh fruits juices, paninis and more.

I had a lot of fun meeting new designers on the block, interacting with shoppers and snacking at Black Taxi. If not for my heavy camera I would have perhaps shopped a lot too. The kind of shoppers I saw seemed to appreciate the creativity and value it. Radhika and Parul have an set upper limit of INR 25k on the selling prices of individual pieces being sold at the event. Designers sell one of a kind pieces and the prices are very affordable, perhaps this is one reason why the numbers on both the lists of Black Taxi, the designers and the shoppers keeps swelling. The event was timed perfectly as the festive season has begun and shopping and buying gifts is on everyone's mind.

Street Style Diaries Mumbai - Karan

Karan wears a well fitted shirt in black over another dark shade in greenish black pants. He wears smart ankle length leather boots in black and is carrying a cool man-bag in another shade of black. The shades of black in this case, in single color or monochromes seem an easy and smart styling direction for a casual day.

However Karan's colorful waistcoat is what drew me to him. An oversized waistcoat in ethnic-geometric print adds that feel of thought-about-ensemble to his otherwise casual look. It helps liven up the whole outlook adds cheer to his smile, and justifies the copy of Vogue in his hands.

Street Style Diaries Mumbai - Lehan Devadhia

Lehan stood out, like a sculpted figurine in black with gold dust. A maxi dress with long sleeves is an unusual choice and that's what caught my eye. She is covered from head to toe yet looks glamorous and chic.She chose a gold clutch that beautifully complements the gold ornamental embellishments on her dress.

The red danglers, nail paint to match and a hint of rouge on the lips add much needed color to the outfit. The color pallet is majorly black and the gold; the red is used in a near perfect measure to take the focus to her pretty face. All in all the outfit makes her face glow.

I love her bold and practical decision to wear open flats to complete her look, as she was out and about, what else, shopping.

Zeeshan grabbed my attention from far away. He pulled together colours normally any man would shy away from pairing together. Pink shirt with Emerald green pants brought together and toned down perfectly with a Navy short sleeves V neck tee and Navy loafers. He chose to roll up the trouser hem and pulled up shirt sleeves for a great casual look.

The pierced eyebrow,ears and chin with groomed facial hair add to his street style persona. Last but not the least I love his out of bed styled hair. 

The necklace and bracelet adds just the right amount of accessorization needed.

A longish tee with an understated graphic, rolled up sleeve, black leggings with wedge sneakers and tied up hair with a minimal day make-up complete this rock-chic meets sport, a tough-street-edgy look that I totally dig.

The lace inserts in the tights are strategically placed to give a teasing peekaboo and are following the opaque+transparent mix trend that's so now.

Wedge sneakers are my current favorite footwear. They give me the high of heels and comfort of a sneaker. 

Choose to walk on any street in the world and you are bound to get eyeballs, yet its so simple!

Black is my poison

What struck me most about Poirei was his blonde hair but also the fact that he was dressed in the simplest of clothes yet there was this immense stylish aura around him.

A pair of well tailored pants can be the most versatile pair a man can own. Poirei chose to style his perfectly tailored pair rolled up at the hem with oxblood red shoes. I love the footwear specially coz it has an understated feel yet bold new colour for men. 

The black classic modern  eye frames, a leather jacket casually slung on the arm and a camera on the shoulder complete his personal style statement.

Like Mother Like Daughter

We daughters are all our mothers in the making. It was so good to meet Manali (the mother) and Chahat (the daughter) in what could easily be an Indian adaptation of the Gothic influence we see on the streets of Paris and east London. The ensemble is predominantly black, complete with black dense liner and chunks of metal. Manali goes for bold circular graphics on the dress and teams it with big pearls around her neck that sit well together. Her well styled hair and the highlighted brows and eyes add to the mystery that's an element of gothica. 

Chahat teams up her off shoulder tie-n-dye maxi dress with leather. Her heavily beaded neck-piece and shoes complement and add that rock-chic vibe. Chahat is a Stylist and the proud mother gave her all the credit for her look.

Its raining stripes everywhere and I got inspired to put together looks for Office wear/Daywear. This season, one of the strongest ways to rock stripes is by going for a retro vibe.Perfect the look with a simple color palette, preferably black and white, and bold details like color heels or metallic details. Classic, easy-to-wear pieces feel especially perfect in a stripe that's stood the test of time. Wear it horizontal and bring the trend into the boardroom this season.

Colours Interact.

Colours interact; some colours bring out the best in you. The orange is complementing her skin tone so well that it was impossible not to notice this stylish lady. Next time try observing yourself against a colour and notice what it does to you and how it makes you feel.

Maxi dresses are a great style statements and easy to carry off. Its the perfect choice for our humid Mumbai in a riot of colors.

The Palladium mall in Mumbai was bathed in Fuchsia to

welcome shoppers, designers, and stars; all dressed up 

for Vogue Fashion's Night Out. 

Your blogger was there to 

witness the big party that the high priestess of fashion 

Anna Wintour conceptualized herself. From Manhattan to Sydney 

to Mumbai now, it was an absolute delightful mix of well dressed people enjoying their luxury shopping with a glass of 

champagne and cupcakes!

The brands at the destination celebrated the event with 

offers and discounts galore. The designers listed 

below pitched in for the event 

to create special products to be sold through Vogue's pop-up 

store.
