Yes Folks its that time of the year again.

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 opened in great style with the spectacular dual shows presented by DHL featuring the collections of the very talented Masaba Gupta and avant garde designer Amit Aggarwal. Colours of DHL were cleverly brought into the collections by both the designers who revealed their latest line of garments to a very appreciative audience.

AMIT AGGARWAL – FASHION’S ULTRA GLAM DESIGNER

Amit Aggarwal’s debut show at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 was the most widely praised event last season. His exclusive futuristic gowns and experiments with the 21st century look for the sari and choli drew applause from fashion lovers.

MASABA GUPTA – FOR THE FREE SPIRITED WOMAN

The name Masaba Gupta conjures up visions of collections that are feisty, free and fashionable. Star winner of the Gen Next designer show in 2009, Masaba’s rise up the fashion ladder has been phenomenal. Her collection “Wanderess” inspired by renowned poet Roman Payne’s character Saskia, had all the characteristic touches that the young designer lavishes on her garments.

Inspired by the Goan woman whose adventurous and free thinking nature has been iconic, Masaba brought these qualities along with a hint of delicate touches for her line. Going for the vintage 1960’s look, the colour palette burst onto the ramp with lavish use of yellow and neon hues and created that splash of Goan flavour. Masaba’s fabric choice was scuba, satin, jersey and crepe for the trio of prints.

For a show stopping entry, it had to be Shilpa Shetty in a slinky black printed cut-out gown with an attached dupatta drape – just the right addition for a beach time soirée

Touches of Goa appeared in the form of geometric leaves and flowers print for loose beach covers over white bikini. Saris with the characteristic Masaba prints in white, brown, black and yellow were teamed with long sleeved black/white leaf print blouse. Flared minis in beige, slinky gowns with multi prints, long sleeved, thigh length jacket with flared pants and cut-out sari gown, brought the mood of the fun times of the 1960s. Trapeze printed top with bell sleeves, attached dupattas for skirts, bell bottom style shararas, long sleeved tail-coat cholis with printed saris and drop waist will-power maxi added to the options that Masaba offered.

When it comes to garments that leave a lasting impression on the audience, Masaba Gupta’s “Wanderess” collection will once again create waves in fashion circles.

Street Style Diaries Mumbai -Shelly Sarkar

Wednesday, 28 May 2014

Blue is the color of passion; I love every bit of this denims and chessboard summer look. This look is perfect to the point where I would not even change the nail color. The ensemble brings out a personality that spells confidence, great taste and finesse......Shelly wears a sequined-in-a-chessboard pattern crop top over a pair of denim shorts washed down to a mid tone. She couples it up with a western style over-shirt with a wash to match and sleeves rolled-up to the elbow. The choice of half-black rimmed retro gradient shades (I adore, never take them off!), nail and lip color and her neatly center-parted and tied into a pony hair is pure sophistication. A black leather purse, a gold rimmed watch with black leather straps and another-name-for-comfort Converse All Star high top shoes in black are practical, non-fussy and classy accessory choices; another tick on big sneaker trend at the moment.

Armed with her Nikon DSLR  Shelly is out to capture into her lens images that inspire......and I did too!

Shelly Sarkar is a fellow blogger and blogs at By The wear.

Crop tops are a rage now; considering our traditional dresses being the saree blouse, ghaghra choli; we have been the most comfortable baring the midriff with elegance and élan so go ahead and try one out.

For a luncheon at a friend's beach house, Esha wanted to let her hair down. The temptation to run down the beach at sunset to touch the waters and cool your heels is hard to resist....specially when a bunch of girls just wanna have fun!

Esha wears this interesting short/long wrap-tie-up dress in a powdered sea blue base with sun faded floral print all-over. The dress is designed for maximum freedom of movement and hence an ideal choice. A sleeveless trucker jacket in denim, a carry all tote and a pair of slip-on flats complete her resort look.

Hair eager to kiss the breeze Esha is ready for some fun on the beach.

P.S: When planning a beach/resort look ensure that you work with minimum number of pieces that are easy to put on and allow you maximum ease and movement. Easy Breezy should be your keywords.....Have fun!

Esha has a Fashion show-for-a-cause to attend, front row, followed by high tea and ending with a sundown soiree at the chic manicured gardens of a 5-star venue.

She chooses this amazing Grecian draped dress by the James Farreira that took my breath away. The Ombre' going from soft hibiscus red to a carrot orange blending in at the waist is a fabulous pairing of color don't you think?

She wears a double string pearl and shell neckpiece in gold, a gold neck choker and a broad gold cuff to complement this Greek Goddess look. Unafraid of adding more color, she chooses a pair of bold color blocked peep toes  for footwear in fuchsia, royal blue and black. I love this footwear choice simply for the fact that is adds a zing that make her look fab from tip to toe. A safer footwear choice wouldn't have been able to do so. She finishes her look with kohl lined eyes, soft hibiscus lips and hair swept back into a messy bun on the side with her tamed curls trying to break free.

Esha Amin is ready to set the temperatures of this garden soiree soaring!

Esha has to meet a friend today she hasn't caught up with in a long time, for a coffee. In a cheerful mood that she is, she pulls out her on-trend pieces, all different and mixes it up with a panache that comes with experience and in the end her pattern-play sits wonderfully together.

Esha wears a deep U neck T with a very interesting Aztec-Geo-Skin horizontal pattern over a tone-on-tone patterned sequined skirt in off-white, both trending equally hot this summer! She puts on a waterfall cardigan in a print that a very modernist leopard skin representation with almost hand-painted spots in colors. The girl loves her metals and a gold cuff with set-in turquoise, leather envelop clutch in silver with all-over tonal studs, and her gold monogrammed pair of belle flat shoes in black finish her look!

Every piece that Esha dons is a conversation starter and I'm sure the girls catching up would have easily moved from coffee to dinner!

P.S: Mixing different trends skin prints-sequined surfaces-aztec/tribal prints-studded pieces-metallic together could be overwhelming. While creating your mix be careful that your entire look doesn't overpower your personality. If you can rock it like this go right ahead!

Five days Five looks One pal : Day 1

I am happy to bring to you the third edition of my Five days Five looks One pal with Esha. Earlier you have seen Prasad Ramamurthy and Sudipta Nandi featured in this story where digging deep into the wardrobes of my pals I bring to you 5 distinct looks, which portray different shades of their personality.

Esha is a vivacious and much talented designer. She has created a niche for herself in styling celebrities from Bollywood, Television, Sports, Runways as well as budding Miss India hopefuls. It was quite a task to edit from her envious collections of clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories, to bring her to you in 5 different avatars over the next weeks.

Today Esha is styling a Bollywood diva for an event and once done she has to be ready for a photo-op as well. Being a stylist she is always on the run.........so into the bag go the black stiletto sandals and the exquisitely gold embroidered and quilted jacket with a touch of neon. What she wears inside is pure comfort of a white camisole and a pair of form flattering slacks in black with gold zipper detail. A pair of always-in-my-bag flats lets her through all the frantic activities of the day. She poses for me just before going out for her photo-op.

The transformation she brings about with her jacket, her heels, her kohl lined eyes and rose lips and her brushed-to-a-side hair in a pony is amazing.......all in the span of 5 minutes!
'You have to think on your toes' she says.

Street Style Diaries Mumbai- Shweta Sharma

To the 80's

You've moved to New Delhi from Mumbai last week, you're dressed to kill, armed with a pout and a practiced-to-perfection pose, with dreams and a plan.....you're on LFW high! (Lakme'/WI Lifestyle Fashion Weeks). Couldn't resist the new Coke commercial doing rounds to announce the migration of the f-people to the capital for the Autumn Winter 14 edition of Wills India Lifestyle Fashion Week being opened by Tarun Tahiliani on the 26th of the month.

I chose to stay put in Mumbai and get back on the street on my hunt, the mystery, the tale that clothes tell and the people behind them. I stumbled upon the charming Shweta, who brought in a lovely new avatar of the 80's vintage for us. Reminiscent of the oversize T+ cut off shorts+ the acid washed denim jacket combination which was a staple for the teens of the 80's grooving to Madonna, Queen or Jon Bon Jovi.

To the 80's and back with Shweta Sharma

Shweta wears this oversize shirt in denim with a stone acid wash, very popular during the 80's, with ripped chest pocket and elbow patched for the real vintage and worn feel. She pairs it up with the iconic cut out denim shorts with frayed edges. She finishes her Retro vibe with the big hair she wears casually. A metal tipped and monogrammed leather clutch bag in camel, and black velvet driving shoes with the skull embroidery, made famous by Alexander McQueen, complete her minimal yet fabulous updated-from-the-80's look.

The glitter of metallic jersey, gold and black shimmer of sequins was highlighted by colours like gold, copper, black, anthracite, flame orange and teal. Inspired by the regal creations of ancient Egypt, the silhouettes were slender and lean and revealed a distinct contrast between diamond sharpness and Egyptian futuristic drapes. A master of drapes and silhouettes that completely push the construction envelope; Gaurav displayed his expertise with Carbon Lattice, Isis, Serpent Wave and Diagonal Murmur.

The gold ribbed collars with a tribal centre interest, the silver multiple chains with a giant topaz pendant worn with matching bracelet, as well as danglers and the strands of diamonds framed by florets hung from a gold neck band were stunners. Ear cuffs and shoulder dusters in rustic styles along with matching bracelets completed the rich line-up of jewellery. The opulence and grandeur of the jewellery was remarkable as gold and precious gems united to create magic. Neckbands were impressively broad or detailed, while finger shields, corded neckpieces were mixed expertly to present jewels meant for a princess.
