Augustine Shimray

Khayashii Augustine Shimray is a personality that is as vibrant and multifaceted as the multicultural land that he comes from, India. This artist/ musician/ model and designer hails from the breathtakingly beautiful and pristine hills of Nagaland. Coming from the head-hunting Tangkhul tribe of heavily tattooed warriors, Augustine is perhaps the the thread that binds tradition and modernity, the primitive and the contemporary.
Augustine Shimray
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.in/,Augustine Shimray
Augustine gives us a look that spells Punk Rock with a predominantly black palette, the Mohawk, the punctured lobes, the tattoos, the leather straps and boots, but with a twist that's original and a genuine  representation of who he is rather than an imposition. He wears this asymmetric sleeveless knit top with an over sized pocket and a pair of black customized pants with heavy duty Doc Marten boots, all black.
Augustine Shimray
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.in/,Augustine Shimray
Augustine is among the few lads of his age to sport the traditional facial tattoos along with the various others that he sports, we're sure each with a story behind it. The various charms and bracelets and armlets that he sports add to his fierce rawness. Augustine also deigns the dream-catchers, one of which he wears. The dream catchers are a native symbol of uniting tribes and are known to filter dreams and catch the nightmares.
Augustine Shimray
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.in/,Augustine Shimray
Augustine has a musical side to him as well and is also a vocalist for #featherheads, feathers, leather, beads and horn almost are a part of his extended being.
Augustine Shimray
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.in/,Augustine Shimray
We love the gun holster like contraption he creates with leather and studs for a small pouch that we're guessing is for his tools. Would like to know the story behind the octopus on his hand.....when we meet next!

It could be a matching pair of Tee and shorts, a shirt and shorts, as long as you are willing to have fun with it and like a bit of quirk in your style!

She continues the Luxe resort feel with an amazing pair of printed sneakers to go with outfit. Printed and colorful sneakers and espadrilles are our favorite footwear to don while having fun with your outfits, for him and her.

Street Style Diaries - Anuj Bhutani

The Old World Charm

The Double breasted suit has been wowing the coming-off age men recently.  Dressier than the single breasted and much popular counterpart, the DB suit is more elegant and more symbolic of power. This has been reinforced by the power dressers like Brad Pitt, David Beckham and shown on the ramps to much applaud by the style Guru Tom Ford.

Anuj Bhutani shows her his interpretation of the DB suit that is unique and modern albeit with an air of that old world charm and magnanimity.

Anuj Bhutani
http://aquaintperspective.blogspot.in/, Anuj Bhutani

Anuj's DB jacket in slate grey is cut with a broader shoulder, and a complementing lapel to an oversize length just a little above the mid thigh. He has done away from the conventional 6X2 and 4X2 button layout to stick to 2x2 layout at the waist. A black shirt worn un-tucked and the roomy-tapering-towards-the-bottom pants cut well above the ankles brings out his unique silhouette. A pair of dark tan vintage leather oxford shoes finish off his look.

The random geometric pattern on his suit add another dimension to his interpretation. Re-visiting the classics to interpret the new modern. Anuj Bhutani is a designer and showed at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week 14 in Mumbai.

Movie day out

Joggers for both men and women have been gaining massive popularity by each passing season. This piece of clothing usually associated with gym-wear or for just lounging about around the house has been formally accepted as a casual-wear staple. Its not the domain of the sports brands as nike and adidas anymore, almost every mainstream fashion retailer from Topman to Scotch n Soda to Zara has many versions up for grabs. Rightly so for a jogger is high on comfort and looks updated and modern, specially the slim fit one!

Parfum Dellic

This meeting of sportswear and formal wear is giving rise to a whole new language in Fashion that we are digging at the moment. The rise and rise of the SPORTS LUXE look where best of sportswear elements are mixed with casual and formal pieces is also something we talked about at the beginning of the season in our post Upcoming Trends for men. The trend is definitely here to stay....

You could combine the jogger (in a knit/woven/denims/leather) with a T, a vest, a shirt and even a formal jacket......that's how versatile this piece is. A ride about town

There are a few things in life that are unquestionably cool like the look of an urban biker. The tough machismo at the same time oh-so-desirable image created by Marlon Brando and James Dean refuses to go from our memories. Out for a ride about town, Parfum showed up in this super cool biker jacket in beaten leather and I was suddenly reminded of those posters we all had in our rooms, I did.

Even though a biker jacket can be teamed up with almost anything today and made to work, for the traditional guy blue jean has always been the sartorial choice. We've seen this versatile and forever desirable piece being worn with tailored pants, over suits and even shorts.

Parfum wears his leather biker with this modern custom tailored pair of slim trousers in blue plaid. A plunge neck tank in a camouflage pattern, a dog-tag, heavy duty Timberland lace-up boots, aviators and his tattoos all adding to the Tough-guy style quotient.

Apart from the Rebellious symbolism, the biker jacket is a must-have wardrobe piece for the modern gent.  Make sure you INVEST in a great one, preferably in leather. I know its expensive but its one piece that will last you a lifetime and will never go out of style. Here's looking at you kid!

Street Style Diaries Mumbai- Rustam Chauhan

Monday, 9 June 2014

I saw Rustam at an event a while ago and as usual he was well turned out in his cool casuals, his groomed full mo-beard and vintage shaped specs.

Normally military fatigues are hard to combine with casual plaids but Rustam's pairing is an exception and it totally works.

He wears this plaid shirt buttoned down and sleeves folded up, in powdered pastel shades of blues and reds, touted to be in the color palette for the coming season with an almost black overdyed military fatigue patterned pair of fitted trousers with interesting seam details. The lace-up boat shoes in brown suede and florescent green add a dash of color to his ensemble.

Style Statement

The best advertisement for your wares/craft specially if it is wearable, is you! Anup dabbles in many such crafty pursuits and when I met him he was like a walking billboard of his exquisite hand painted/crafted accessories using coins among other things.

Coins have always had the power to draw collectors over centuries and are great examples of beautifully detailed and rendered artworks that are the sign of the times preserved for posterity. Coin jewelry is a fun alternative to the conventional precious (or not) metal jewelry that we are all used to. Don't we all have a lucky coin/lucky penny that we do not wanna let go or an exotic souvenir or a gifted coin from faraway land that we want to keep forever? I have an old neck piece in silver with old guineas and i will always love it, do share your coin jewelry with us and tell us how you feel about them....

Anup uses these coins to fashion pins, brooches, armlets, pendants and such innovative pieces to help you carry your memories with you, on you. He also does these interesting hand painted ties. What I saw reminded me of the Egyptian art influences in terms of the color usage and the graphics, specially the Eye of Ra. I do love the vintage timepiece on a washed denim band with hand painted graphics on it.

Don't forget to notice the 10 naye paise from 1958.......nostalgia and the stories from my granny of its worth and how it could buy the world then....priceless!

Upcoming Trends for Men

Thursday, 30 January 2014

As we look forward to the New Year, new choices, newer options it’s time to update our wardrobes and follow on with the latest trends.

Year 2014 looks promising for fashionable men ever more with newer fashion weeks dedicated only to menswear have emerged. At A Quaint Perspective, we observe that men are sporting bolder colors and embracing newer silhouettes. Fashion is fun again. Here’s lowdown on the upcoming trends for coming year.

Key Trends

Casual meets Formal

Casual meets formal look, note the denim jacket with kerchief in pocket detail

Pairing a formal jacket with casual trousers is a trend none of you must miss out on. Borrowing from the formals dressing will be major trend in the coming seasons for men. Add a bow-tie to a casual shirt, a formal jacket to a pair of denims. You can wear a colorful printed pocket square with a formal suit and team it up with a tee. This is a playful trend where one can choose to be as experimental or as conservative one wishes to.

Do’s

Make sure the jacket is a clean classic one in a darker tone. Select a classic two button with a single vent in back and medium width lapels.

Do try and mix various textures in the same color tones.

You really need to be careful of the vibrancy or intensity of the colors you are matching.

Don’ts

Do not go for overtly stylized jackets.

Avoid wearing too many colors at once.

Social settings allow you to branch out and be a little more adventurous while in the workplace and functions surrounding them, a sharper and professional look is recommended.

Don’t wear a striped shirt with a striped pocket square or bow tie.

Denims are back

The most universally accepted style staples denims are back.

After the riot of colors in the last few seasons in the bottom wear the denims make a comeback. The best part is that they suit all body types ages and is one of

Fits

Trousers/Denims get more fitted bordering on the skinny fit. Teaming up with a shirt untucked is the look to sport for a younger look. The one big advantage of the trend is that it makes you look slimmer and adds to your height.

Do’s
Try printed chinos/denims, try colors, try different washes, just ensure it complements you.

Roll up the hem of the trousers/denims up to the ankles for a more edgy look.

Wear them with formal shoes with the no socks look, the key is to get yourself foot-lets, which are socks that are not visible outside your shoes.

Don’t’s

If you are top heavy avoid too skinny options, instead choose slim pants.

Don’t tuck in your tees.

The shirt/tee should ideally end midway of your fly.

Patterns and Prints

the Insurgence or prints for men, from ditsy to geometric to floral to quirky

Another of my favorite trend is the insurgence or prints for men, from ditsy to geometric to floral to quirky. It could be a shirt, a pair of chinos, T-shirt or even sock prints are everywhere. Adding a print or pattern to your wardrobe is fun and can be as loud or subtle as you would want it to be.

Have fun with prints but mixing more than two would be a risk.

Colours

Moving away from the bright colours, 2014 brings in powdered shades of our staples with Indigo as the prime colour to focus on.

Accessories

At A Quaint Perspective, we think Hats could be the new addition to your wardrobe to lift up your look. Choose from the Trilby or the Bowler currently sported by Amir Khan for Dhoom3.

When it comes to accessories in order to keep it stylish one needs to be careful as not to overdo or over complicate. Bring out your individuality by wearing what appeals to you and keep it simple. Although accessories are considered to be generic, the appeal lies in the way you choose your clothes, accessories and put them together.

Happy 2014!
